English Teacher are a Leeds four-piece fronted by Lily Fontaine, whose debut album This could be texas , released in april 2024, showcases the band’s talent of conjoined genres like post punk, folk and dreampop.

Fontaines’ delivery of a mix between melodic vocal lines and spoken word creates a juxtaposition that allows the conversational verses to tranSition into the wide emotive choruses.

The album’s critical recognition and have translated into wider recognition, capped by winning the 2024 Mercury Prize.
