Demob happy

Demob Happy began in Newcastle upon Tyne before settling in Brighton; across three albums they’ve pushed between heavy riffing and pop-forward hooks while consistenTLY evolving their sound across each record.

Their debut Dream Soda (released in October 2015) arrived as a bold, dynamic record that married grunge inspired riffs to unexpected melodic turns, and Holy Doom (2018) broadened that scope with them leaning into more psychadelic inspired textures and tighter pop hooks.

More recently Divine Machines (2023) moved the band into more adventurous territory as it highlights the group’s willingness to stretch the arrangement and tone of their work, rather than repeat a winning formula.

Thematically, the record reaches beyond the band’s usual cynicism into something more philosophical and hopeful.

Frontman Matthew Marcantonio described it as a record “about human progress and technology,” built around ideas of renewal and modern spirituality. a clear thematic change from earlier, more cynical lyrics.
