Projects and experience

An overview of the professional experience I completed across my degree.

Key areas of experience

This page documents the professional work experience I completed across my degree. As part of my final year assessment, I was required to complete at least 90 hours of work experience across Levels 4, 5 and 6. My experience came from a range of music industry-related work, including event work, festival work, local music projects, research, website development and professional portfolio building.

Live event work

AJF, Frog & Fiddle events, local gigs and festival-style events.

Research and report

Music industry report, survey work and AI/music research.

Stellar events

Event work

Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2024

In 2024, I worked at Cheltenham Jazz Festival as an event manager. This included working in venues such as The Urban Fox in Cheltenham and supporting a roaming band as they moved between outdoor performance spots around the town. This gave me experience in managing live music activity across public spaces, supporting performers and helping the event run smoothly outside of a standard venue setting.

Festival work

Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2024, including venue and outdoor performance support.

Digital portfolio work

Feedback Loop, artist pages, social content and website development.

A large part of my 90+ hours came from event work connected to local music events in Cheltenham, including AJF and Frog & Fiddle-related shows.

Sunday Funday 2024

Role: Event Team
I supported the running of Sunday Funday 2024, helping with the practical event work needed on the day. This was useful early experience in working as part of an event team and understanding how live music events operate in a venue setting.

Frogfest 2024

Role: Event Team
Frogfest 2024 gave me experience working on a larger festival-style event. Because the event involved multiple artists and a busier schedule, it helped me understand how much organisation and teamwork goes into keeping a live music event running smoothly.

Crosstown Traffic 2025

Role: Event Team
Crosstown Traffic 2025 was a larger local music event, which gave me more experience with a busy event format. Working on this helped me build confidence in event support, communication and being aware of what needed doing during the day.

Underground 2025

Role: Event Team
Underground 2025 was another important event in my work experience. I supported the event as part of the team, gaining more experience in how local music events are organised and delivered.

Sunday Funday 2025

Role: Event Team
Working on Sunday Funday again in 2025 allowed me to return to a familiar event with more confidence and experience. By this point, I had a better understanding of what event work involved and how to be useful as part of a live music team.

Music Industry Report Project

I also worked on a group music industry report, focusing on current issues such as AI in music, grassroots venues, ticketing and audience behaviour. My contribution included survey development, AI research, writing and helping shape the findings into a clear final report. This developed my research, communication and industry analysis skills.

FeedbackLoop

Feedback Loop is my main public-facing music project. I created it as a music discovery website to help listeners find emerging artists through bands and sounds they already know. Through this project, I developed experience in artist research, website content, music writing, social media, branding and digital presentation.

Stellar was a project I helped start in my second year, focused on helping students access live music volunteering opportunities. It connected to my own event experience because it explored how people can get early industry experience, build confidence and understand what live music work involves.

Skills developed:

Event support — helping live music events run smoothly.

Communication — working with venues, artists, teams and audiences.

Research — exploring music industry issues and turning findings into written work.

Digital content — building website pages, social posts and artist-focused content.

Organisation — managing work across events, projects and deadlines.

Overall, these experiences helped me build a clearer understanding of the music industry from several angles. I gained practical experience through events, developed research and writing skills through report work, and built a public-facing music platform through Feedback Loop. This has helped me clarify the areas I want to move towards after graduation, including live events, artist development, music marketing, editorial content, and digital music projects.
